Baby’s condition improves, is put off ventilator

Ten days after she was admitted at the AIIMS Trauma Centre ICU, the two-year-old showed signs of improvement on Friday morning. She moved her limbs and was given her first feed — milk mixed with nutritional supplements — through a tube. HT reports.

“There is some improvement in her condition. We have put her off ventilator and put her on an oxygen mask,” said one of treating doctors. “Her brain status has also shown slight improvement but because of permanent damage, her cognitive behaviour will be impaired,” the doctor said. She also lifted her left leg and right hand. Doctors hope her wounds will heal gradually.

“If she continues to improve like this, the physical wounds should heal. However, she would need rehabilitation,” said Dr MC Misra, chief, AIIMS.
