According to a senior police officer, Hussain’s arrest came on the instructions of the Lajpat Nagar child welfare committee (CWC) to trace him soon.

Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south), said, Hussain was arrested following a tip-off about his presence in Gurgaon.

Earlier, the CWC had instructed the police to coordinate with Mohammad Munif, the baby’s brother, and their mother Munni Khatoon in their search for Hussain.

After battling for life for almost three months, the battered baby had succumbed to her injuries in AIIMS on March 15.
