Additional chief metropolitan magistrate Shailendra Malik convicted Alok Kumar for impersonating one Rajiv Kumar and appearing in the entrance test for a seat in BSc (Hons) paramedical.

Rajiv Kumar had pleaded guilty under the provisions of plea bargaining during the trial on March 26, 2010, and was sentenced to two months imprisonment on September 9, 2010. He was also directed to pay a fine of Rs 25,000 to the state.

The CBI had chargesheeted the duo on a written complaint by former AIIMS director PK Dave, who had in a letter dated August 14, 2001, alleged that during the entrance examination for BSc (Hons) paramedical course, which took place on June 26, 2001 at a school here, eight instances of impersonation were detected.

He alleged that the instances appeared to be a systematic, pre-planned and organised action on part of some mischievous persons to obtain admission by unscrupulous means.

The letter was enclosed with eight instances of cheating, including Rajiv Kumar.

Rajiv Kumar was among the 29 candidates declared successful after the test and was, therefore, called by the counselling committee of AIIMS. During counselling, the members got suspicious and subjected Rajiv Kumar to the details of the written examination. He admitted that he had not appeared in the examination.

A probe into the complaint revealed that Rajiv Kumar had conspired with one Pankaj and Alok Kumar to cheat in the examination. It also came to light that Pankaj had asked Alok to appear in the examination in place of Rajiv. Pankaj is currently at large.
