"The incident was reported from Rani Bagh where the victims, Suryakant Sharma (30) and Gaurav Kumar (30), were drinking in their car at 12:30 am," said a Delhi Police officer.

"They were sitting in their cars when two men on a bike came and began reprimanding them for drinking in public," said the officer.

When the duo didn't listen, the pillion rider pulled out a country-made pistol and fired in the air, the officer said. "When the two began shouting for help, the bikers shot at them," the officer said. Sharma was shot in the stomach and is said to be critical, while Kumar suffered a graze wound. The assailants then snatched Rs 300 and an ATM card from Sharma before fleeing the scene, police said.

A case has been lodged and the police are investigating.
