Party spokesperson Prakash Javdekar said: "BJP condemns the FM for attacking and mocking CAG once again. He has done so in the 2G case and now he is doing so for the coal scam."

Javdekar also came out with a figure of R50 lakh crore as the loss to the country's exchequer because of the coal scam. "If he (Chidambaram) is challenging Rs. 1.86 lakh crore by CAG, I am saying it is Rs. 50 lakh crore worth of coal reserves that has been given for free."

The BJP spokesperson also spoke of the Supreme Court ruling on the coal block allocations in which the apex court had asked the CBI to file reply in eight weeks and posted the matter for hearing to January 24.
