BJP to give lessons in being a good councillor
Being a newcomer is not easy, especially in municipal corporations. This year, around 70 new faces from BJP will be seen in the three corporations. And to educate them on the nitty-gritty of “being a good councillor”, the party has decided to hold a workshop for them.

The date of the workshop is yet to be finalised, though sources did say that the workshop has been tentatively scheduled for May 28.
Senior leaders will train the new councillors on how to talk to the media, how to get files cleared and how to put forward new proposals. There will also be a lesson
on the functioning of the corporations.
“Several councillors faltered even during the oath-taking ceremony. Seeing this, party leaders have decided to hold a proper training session,” said a BJP leader.
In the April municipal elections, the BJP had given tickets to 115-odd new candidates and renominated only about 50 sitting councillors.
“A number of young faces have been elected to the corporations. Many of them have no knowledge of the functions of municipal corporations and need guidance,” said a senior leader of the BJP.
Of the 272 seats across three corporations, BJP won in 138. “The venue for the workshop is yet to be decided but it will most probably be the Civic Centre,” said Yogender Chandolia, chairman of the standing committee of North Delhi Municipal Corporation.
With a scarcity of experienced leaders, the party is toying with the idea of giving membership of standing committees to the three leaders of the house so that the new councillors have at least one experienced person to guide them.
The standing committee is one of the most powerful committees of the corporations vested with the power of accepting or rejecting development projects.
