Himanshu Batra, a computer operator, was gunned down by an unidentified man in Rohini’s sector 17 on Sunday night. The dead man’s fault was that he opened the door of his car, hitting the plate of tikkas in the hands of the accused, which then fell to the ground.

Batra and his five friends had gone to a local takeaway, Mangu Chicken Corner. Three of them went out to get their food while Batra and another friend stayed in the car. “When his friends didn’t return for a long time, Batra got out of the car to check. As he was getting out, the door hit a man carrying a plate of chicken tikkas, who dropped it,” said a senior police officer.

This set off a verbal row and even as Batra tried to reason, the accused took out a gun and shot him twice point-blank, hitting him in the stomach and chest. Two more shots were fired, police say. Batra died on the way to hospital. A constable tried to chase the accused but lost him in the fog.
