For 25 years, Raj Kumar, 46, struggled to make ends meet. On Saturday, an allegedly drunk woman in a speeding luxury car brought it all to a bloody end.

“He was the sole earner for a family of nine, including a physically-challenged brother who can’t help even if he wants to,” said Ombir (40), Kumar’s younger brother.
A father of five daughters, he worked hard to keep three of his girls in school and repay a loan he had taken for his mother’s cataract operation.
“He had to repay that loan and was working overtime to earn some extra money,” Ombir added.
Kumar was going to the Palam area when Nivedita Singh’s speeding Honda City hit the auto at 11:30 pm.
Police say, Raj Kumar and Ved Prakash (53) died on the spot. Prakash, a sweets shop owner in Sarai Rohilla, was sitting behind Kumar at the time of the accident.
Even as Nivedita returned to her four-year-old son and two-year-old daughter, Kumar’s youngest daughter, Tanu, not even two yet, sat in a corner at their Uttam Nagar residence.
“She has been tugging at her father’s sleeve asking him to get up and have his food. What can we tell her?” asked Nemchand (30), Kumar’s cousin.
Barely hours after the accident, Singh, whose medical examination proved that her blood-alcohol content was 150 mg (the permissible limit is 30 mg) was granted bail after furnishing a bond of Rs 50,000.
