While 35-year-old Ram Kumar died on the spot after the Blueline hit him his 18-year-old colleague, Suresh was injured. Suresh was discharged from hospital on Friday.

The police said both of them were carpenters and worked together. With this incident this year’s death toll of caused by Blueline buses has reached 99 closing in on last years figure of 100.

The violence triggered after the driver and conductor of the bus fled.

The police said that an angry mob gathered and set the bus ablaze and pelted stones at a DTC bus that followed. The police have not been able to trace any of the people who indulged in violence. By the time the police reached the area the mob had dispersed.

“Most of them were local residents and we will soon trace them and take necessary action against them. A case of rioting has also been registered,” said B.K. Singh, additional deputy commissioner of police, Outer district.

The Blueline bus involved in the accident was plying on route number 182 between Sukhbir Nagar and ISBT.

The police traced the driver of the bus and arrested him under section 304 A (death caused due to a rash and negligent act) of the Indian Penal Code.

He was identified as Ram Chander.

The police sent the victim’s body for a postmortem and are also investigating the rioting case.

The police had cracked down on errant Bluelines after a Blueline bus killed seven people waiting to board a bus in Badarpur in South Delhi earlier this month.

As a stringer deterrent the police had decided to arrest reckless Blueline drivers under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, if seen driving dangerously or violating traffic rules.

The police also decided to impound buses being driven in a rash and negligent manner.

In an attempt to rein in defaulters the police had also planned to trace drivers whose licenses were cancelled to ensure they do not take to the wheel again.
