Brother’s bloody quest for honour

Four years after they eloped, Monica (24), a Gujjar, and her Rajput husband Kuldeep Singh (26) were gunned down at their rented house in northwest Delhi's Ashok Vihar on Sunday.

Four years after they eloped, Monica (24), a Gujjar, and her Rajput husband Kuldeep Singh (26) were gunned down at their rented house in northwest Delhi's Ashok Vihar on Sunday.

Monica's elder brother Ankit and his friend Mandeep — the two suspects — are absconding.

Both victims belong to Wazirpur, where village elders now claim Ankit blamed Monica for the sister of his best friend also eloping.

Mahender Khari (70), Sarpanch of the Gujjar community, said, “Mandeep was depressed because his older sister eloped with her Rajput lover a month ago.” The village elders also say Mandeep used to force Ankit to “take revenge”.
