BSP candidates asked to bear expenses of top cheerleaders

Bahujan Samaj Party candidates gearing up for the upcoming elections have yet another task in their hand.Apart from electioneering, they will have to bear the expenses of all political leaders coming from Uttar Pradesh to campaign in the city.

According to party sources, each BSP candidate has been asked by the party high command to pay Rs 35,000 for providing accommodation and food to the leaders. “All the candidates have been asked to bear the expenditure of ministers of the UP cabinet or MLAs who will stay in their constituency,” said a party member.

State party unit chief Brahm Singh Bidhuri said: “It is an internal matter of the party. The leaders are coming to help the contestants so why bring the money issue into it.”

In every constituency, five leaders, including two MLAs, will be deployed to form “election strategies”. Around 400 senior BSP leaders have come from UP. Party leaders said ministers and MLAs have been assigned particular constituencies on the basis of the caste combinations in the segment.

“The leaders are there to help the contestants and it is quite natural that they will look after them in every possible way,” said Vijay Rajput, president of the Karol Bagh unit.

BSP supremo, Mayawati, too will arrive on November 24. Ministers and MLAs of UP who have already arrived in the capital have strategically selected five locations for the rallies.

“Rallies will be conducted in Sultanpuri, Chattarpur, Rohini, Kondli and Ram Lila ground. Behenji will lead the rallies. She is viewing the Delhi assembly polls as the semi-finals to the crucial Lok Sabha elections,” said another party member. The party has already made inroads in Delhi after the last year's Municipal Corporation polls by winning 17 of the 272 seats.

Mayawati's right-hand man Satish Chandra Mishra is currently monitoring the campaign while entire ministers of the UP cabinet have been assigned particular constituencies to help candidates decide on strategies.
