Concerned over the growing trend of absenteeism among its office-bearers, the Congress has started keeping track of their attendance at the party headquarters.

The party had received complaints from workers from states that they are not able to meet the office-bearers, especially the secretaries, at the headquarters.
While some general secretaries regularly visit the office whenever they are in Delhi, others are pre-occupied with their ministerial responsibilities and occasionally drop in.
When a general secretary is not available, the workers seek to meet the AICC secretaries and in most cases have to return without discussing the matters.
Subsequently, the party has started maintaining an attendance register. “This is going on for more than a month now. The register is being maintained on a daily basis,” a secretary said.
The party is also discreetly keeping a watch. The person entrusted with the task of doing the rounds of offices to monitor attendance is being changed routinely.
When asked about the measure, AICC treasurer and in-charge of administration Motilal Vora told R: “We maintain a record of everything. But then there are people who have to frequently travel in connection with the party work.” Another AICC secretary was surprised when asked about the step. He directed his staff to give Vora a note of his tours during the past one month.
