The campaign will be held at national-level this year with all Indian states flagging off their individual campaigns.

Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Mukul Wasnik, who flagged off the campaign, also announced that the Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship would be made available to students with disability. “We still have to go a long way in terms of inclusion but the march has begun in earnest,” Wasnik said.

The third phase will try to create more opportunities for participation in the community for the differently-abled, enable them to access government schemes and change people’s attitudes in a development context.

In Delhi, AADI, an NGO working in the field of disability, will hold various programmes under the campaign to increase awareness and make the city more accessible to the disabled.

“We will hold street plays, set up hundreds of information kiosks, and organise seminars on job opportunities for the disabled,” said Madhu Grover, member, AADI. htc
