Residents of the national capital continue to battle severe cold wave conditions, as the city recorded a minimum temperature of 4.6 degrees Celsius.

People were seen basking in soft sunshine and lighting fires to get respite from the blistering cold spell.

"It's too cold for the last two days and we lit a fire in our park to keep ourselves warm early in the morning," said a motor garage worker in south Delhi.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city recoded a minimum of 4.6 degrees Celsius, a little above the 4.4 degrees recorded Sunday.

"The minimum temperature will hover around 4 degrees till Wednesday. Snowfall in Himalayan valleys and the north-westerly wind from there is the reason behind the current cold spell here," said an IMD official.

Sunday was the coldest day of the season so far and it was the coldest on December 16 in the last five years.
