CBI arrests duo for taking bribe from shop owner

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an assistant commissioner and a lower division clerk of the Delhi government's food and supply department, for allegedly accepting a bribe and not cancelling the license of a fair price shop owner, despite detecting major irregularities in the audit.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an assistant commissioner and a lower division clerk of the Delhi government's food and supply department, for allegedly accepting a bribe and not cancelling the license of a fair price shop owner, despite detecting major irregularities in the audit.

CBI sources said both the accused were arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from the shop owner.

"The complainant, an employee of the fair price shop (FPS) said in his complaint, that the accused were demanding an illegal amount of Rs 50,000 for not cancelling the license of the shop, due to irregularities detected during the audit," a CBI spokesperson said.

The official said after the negotiation, the duo allegedly agreed to accept Rs 40,000, from the shop owner, after which the CBI laid a trap for them and the officials were arrested.
