A hidden camera installed near west Delhi’s Tilak Nagar helped in arresting a man who used to rob people using public restrooms, police said.

The arrested has been identified as Jitender (24) and a country-made pistol has been recovered from him. The installation of the hidden camera on a tree near the boundary wall of the police station was done recently after a man was robbed of his cash near the facility.
“To prevent repetition of similar crime there and in order to detect the earlier reported crime, it was decided a hidden camera be placed there,” said V Renganathan, deputy commissioner of police (west).
A 24X7 watch was kept for several days and movement of each person was watched. On Friday night, the duty officer who was monitoring the hidden camera footage noticed that a person has been hanging around the restroom for about more than 40-45 minutes and was frequently entering and coming out of the toilet.
“It was further observed that this person used to enter the restroom whenever any passer-by entered it and would come following the user. He informed about the presence of the man to a police team,” said Renganathan.
According to the police on being questioned, he had no answer as to why he was hanging in and around the toilet for 40-45 minutes. He was frisked and checked and found to be in possession of a loaded country made pistol of .315 bore. Police said that he had come there to rob the belongings of any of the users who used to be carrying a bag.
