Advocate Ram Jethmalani, appearing for Shah, slammed the UPA for "targeting Modi for political reasons". Jethmalani alleged Shah was just a medium for this end. The advocate made the contention during the hearing of a plea by Narmada Bai whose son Tulsiram Prajapati was killed in a "fake encounter".

Jethmalani told the bench: "It is just an illusion to say that CBI is a premier investigative agency... I regret to say there is conclusive evidence to prove that the agency is subordinate to the political party in power." He said there was evidence to prove the conspiracy between CBI and the Centre.
