Confirming this, an agency source said the probe has found that a conspiracy was hatched allegedly by the police officers, including the then deputy inspector general of Gujarat police DG Vanzara, to kill Prajapati "since he was a material witness to the killings of his associate, Sohrabuddin Sheikh, and the disappearance of the latter's wife Kausar Bi, in Gujarat in the last week of November, 2005."
Prajapati was arrested in Udaipur, Rajasthan, the day Sohrabuddin was killed-on November 26, 2005. Kausar Bi was also allegedly killed.
"Prajapati had told Sohrabuddin's relatives that he had seen Sohrabuddin and Kausar Bi in the custody of accused Gujarat police officers at a flat in Danilimda, Ahmedabad, a few days before the couple was killed," said the source.
