‘Cheating’ husband in dock

Police said Ramesh Khanna's (name changed) wife alleged dowry harassment and cheating and lodged a complaint in November this year. The couple had met through a matrimonial website.

Police said she also alleged that Khanna had married twice earlier and has cheated several other women by concealing his age and other details.

Khanna is also accused of pasting “anti-national” posters in Punjab in the name of his first wife's father and a case under TADA was registered.

N.S. Bundela, deputy commissioner of police (northwest), said, “Khanna approached his current wife also through a matrimonial website. To obtain her consent, the accused intentionally misrepresented his date of birth and marital status.”

“He kept calling on her mobile and contacted her through e-mails also and succeeded in getting her consent for marriage.”

The couple married on December 28, 2008, in Delhi. His wife alleged that he got his divorce in his previous marriage only on March 27 this year. This information, she alleged, he had hidden from her.

“His wife also alleged that he misused his official position and money power to ensure he was never caught,” the officer said.

Police said Khanna used to keep gifts and jewellery of his ex-wives and whenever their families would try to seek justice, he used his power to get even with them.

“His first wife told us that when she levelled a case of dowry harassment against him, he got a dacoity case registered against her relatives. She was forced to withdraw the complaint,” said the officer.
