Children do not feel like playing

The Gupta household is bothered about the long, frequent and usually unpredictable power cuts, “The only thing that we are certain of is that there is bound to be an hour-long power-cut every two hours. On an average, we are without power for more than 7 hours a day,” said Rakesh Gupta (35), her husband and a businessman in adjoining Krishna Nagar.

If Gupta is to be believed, the power situation is worse at his office, “There was a 6-hour power cut in the morning — from 9 am to 3 pm. It was only after 3.15 pm that there was some respite. As we finally set to work, there was another power-cut at 5. I just gave-up and came back home,” said Gupta.

The Gupta household, like many in the neighbourhood, is worried about the health of its children. “My son is 3 years old and gets very restless whenever there is no power. Because of the heat, he doesn’t feel like going out to play. Kids get dehydrated even while they are home,” Seema Gupta said.
