In a bid to popularise the 23km Airport Express Metro - which in six months could register only 12,000 average daily footfall - Reliance Infrastructure has introduced a 'Chota Card' scheme for infrequent travellers.
Reliance Infrastructure is the concessionaire - operator - company for the Airport Express Metro.
The 'Chota Card' scheme offers 10 trips in a month and offers 25% discount on existing fare.
On Thursday, Lieutenant General Chetinder Singh launched this commuter-friendly monthly fare scheme at Dhaula Kuan station, three days after it became operational. Mangu Singh, director (operations), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was present during the launch.
Dhaula Kuan station, located in close vicinity of Army Cantonment, is expected to cater to defence personnel on a large scale.
"We continuously strive to increase comfort for our commuters. Chota Card is a step in that direction, wherein even less frequent travellers can enjoy the benefits of the Airport Metro, at a much-lesser cost," said Anil P Gupta, president, Reliance Infrastructure.
Chota Card is priced between Rs 150 and Rs 750 for 10 trips, depending upon boarding and de-boarding stations of passengers.
It is valid for a month.
The high-speed Airport Express Metro - connecting New Delhi station with Dwarka Sector-21 via Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport - now operates a full-fledged service, with all six of its stations operational.
While the Dhaula Kuan station caters mainly to defence personnel, the Aerocity station on National Highway-8 caters to residents of Vasant Kunj, Vasant Vihar, Mahipalpur and domestic fliers who wish to board flights from Terminal 1 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
