The controversial structure built over what is assumed to be 17th century Akbarabadi Mosque in Subhash Park is here to stay, at least for the time being.

The North Corporation being unable to fix a date for its demolition, the structure now stands status quo. The date of demolition was postponed due to Durga Puja and Eid, but even after the festivals are over, no action seems to have taken place.

"Demolition of the structure is not easy as there will be strong resentment from people who have constructed it. Since the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) has to supervise the corporation and the police to provide protection, we are waiting to have a meeting to resolve the issues," said a senior official of North Corporation.

The official added that due to the upcoming Diwali festival, it is becoming difficult to get in touch with the police.

Yogender Chandolia, chairman of standing committee, North Corporation said, "I have written to the Delhi police and to the commissioner of the corporation asking for immediate action but there has been no response," he said.

The Delhi High Court on October 20 had ordered immediate demolition of the structure erected at Subhash Park in order to expedite the process of ascertaining the existence of the Akbarabadi mosque.
