What is newest thing that you have introduced in the hospital?
I would say mortality audit. At least in the last 12 years no one had ever bothered to maintain a database of the number of deaths in the hospital.

How will this help?
It will not only help build a database but will also bring about much needed accountability of doctors.

While there is visible work going on, the sanitation problem exists?
Yes. We are really short of safai karamcharis (nursing orderlies).

Why can’t you outsource safai karamchari’s?
For our newer building we will be outsourcing the services. But for the existing blocks we are bound by government rules, which prohibit us from mixing the government staff with contractual labour.

What is the solution for cleanliness?
By next week, we will start levying fines on littering, spitting, smoking, drinking, wall defacement, etc.

But are you allowed to impose fines?
Yes. We have received all necessary permissions from the government. The money received by way of fines, will be used for the hospital.
