It is now projecting the Centre’s success in gaining majority in Parliament as a sign of its impending victory in the forthcoming assembly polls. Senior leaders of the state Congress, including chief minister Sheila Dikshit, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief Jai Prakash Aggarwal, along with city ministers and MPs called on UPA chairperson Sonia, to congratulate her on the government’s success. The Congress Legislative Party has announced a meeting for Thursday soon after the trust vote.

The Congress that has won two consecutive elections in Delhi had been dispirited for a while over issues like the court ordered demolition drive last year, something that the BJP left no stone unturned to capitalise on. Infighting within the state Congress ranks had brought down the party’s morale, with many expecting to relinquish power even before the elections.

“After yesterday’s trust votes, the morale of the Congress workers is extremely high. We were watching the trust vote closely, but had no indication of the effect it will have on the workers. We plan to go to the party cadres now as they are very happy and the time is right to strike,” said Aggarwal.

Detractors of the government say the party is merely expressing a fake sense of jubilation. “It is a pseudo happiness that is being displayed. Their corruption at the state-level has been confirmed by their party’s tactics on the national level,” said Harshavardhan, state BJP chief.
