A section of the Municipal Contractors' Association has now threatened to stop work on all CWG-related projects too.

"To begin with, we will not carry out the beautification work which is done every year ahead of the Independence Day. We have informed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) about it. We also had a meeting with the deliberative wing of the MCD but it didn't yield any positive result," said Sunil Vohra, president of Delhi Municipal Contractors' Association.

"A number of contractors have also told me that they will stop the construction work at CWG sites too," Vohra added.

The association has been claiming that their dues have been pending for 18 months.

Until they get their dues, they say they will not start any developmental work in residential colonies.

"No work was carried out in City Zone and we will continue to protest till the Rs. 650 crore due to us is paid," he added.

According to the association, more than 3,000 contractors have been on a tool-down strike for the past few days.

"We have not been collecting and transporting the malba (debris), which we are supposed to do, from various colonies. Apart from this, in many areas, we had started constructing roads and after the strike began, we have left it incomplete," he added.
