Cop killed in east Delhi road accident

A 45-year-old Delhi Police head constable died after being run over by an unidentified speeding vehicle near a school in east Delhi early on Tuesday morning, police said.

A 45-year-old Delhi Police head constable died after being run over by an unidentified speeding vehicle near a school in east Delhi early on Tuesday morning, police said.

According to police, the accident took place near Azad Grounds near Victor Public School in Madhu Vihar around 12:55am. The victim, Abhay Narayan Rai, was posted at Rohini (south) police station.

"Rai, a resident of Kaushambi in Ghaziabad, was returning home on his bike when the accident took place," said a police officer.

Rai was taken to a hospital where doctors pronounced him brought dead, he added.

Rai, the sole bread-winner of his family, is survived by his wife and three daughters. A case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving has been filed against unknown persons.
