Cop shoots self in police station

An Assistant Sub Inspector and a Constable with the Delhi Police committed suicide in the Capital on Monday.

An Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) and a Constable with the Delhi Police committed suicide in the Capital on Monday.

In the first incident, a 40-year-old constable posted at the Naraina police station shot himself with his service gun inside the toilet in the station on Monday morning. According to police, the incident took place at 5 am.

Police said deceased Kailash Chand, a native of Rajasthan, had been posted in Naraina police station since Dec 2007.

“Officers present there said they broke open the door after hearing the shots and immediately rushed Kailash Chand to Safdarjung Hospital, where he was declared brought dead,” said a senior officer.

A senior police officer said no suicide note was recovered from the spot.

In the second incident, 53-year-old Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) Khajan Singh posted at Gokul Puri Police Station committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his residence in Saboli Village in Harsh Vihar on Monday. He was found by his son. According to the police, the incident took place at about 3 p.m.

A senior official said Singh had not been going to work for the past few weeks and on Monday he got a call from the police station for the same.
