A joint team of the Delhi Police’s Crime Branch and the west district police caught 21-year-old Raju and 19-year-old Shashi — the duo behind the crime — on Friday.

"Raju was apprehended by a Crime Branch team from Dabri Mor, when he came there to meet his associates at around 9 a.m. Shashi was arrested from the Uttam Nagar Metro station by West Delhi district police two hours later," said a senior Delhi Police officer.

Police said that Bharadwaj, an IT professional who worked for software firm in Noida, was returning to his Janakpuri C1 Block flat from his sister’s home in C2 Block, when he was waylaid by Raju Shashi.

Bharadwaj had gone for his birthday dinner at his sister’s house.

“Raju told us he and Shashi intercepted Bhardwaj at Pankha Road and demanded his money and mobile phone at knife-point. They assaulted Bharadwaj, who was of a strong build, when he refused to hand over the personal items," said Neeraj Thakur, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime).

Police said the mobile phone robbed from Bhardwaj was recovered from Raju’s possession, while Bharadwaj’s credit cards were seized from Shashi.
