Cops may arrest Puri's parents

The police may arrest the parents of Citibank scam mastermind Shivraj Puri, who have applied for bail at the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The court will take up the case for hearing on Monday.
The investigators hope that the court may reject the bail plea of Raghuraj Puri and Diskha, accused in the R400-crore scam. "We will definitely oppose the bail plea as their custody is important for taking the case to its logical conclusion," said a senior police official.
Meanwhile, the police have found that Puri's mother had procured 67.3kg gold worth Rs 13.75 crore in three installments. According to the police, the gold was bought from a Delhi shop.
"The gold was bought by making proper payments and we don't suspect any foul play by the trader. Investigators have recorded the statements of the owner of the jewellery, Pankaj Malik, Bhupender Raj Wadhwa, the agent, and Gopal, the delivery boy," said a senior police officer who doesn't wish to be named.
"They first bought 3kg, then 4kg and the rest in the third installment. We have recovered the receipts," he added.
Meanwhile, the police have laid hands on Puri's real estate investment details. However, huge spending on gold by Puri's parents has baffled the investigators.
"During the course of interrogation, Puri had told us that he had purchased gold with the slush money. Further investigation had revealed that his mother, Diskha, had bought 67.3kg of gold. It is in the custody of Diksha," a probe officer said.
Puri had told the police about his real estate investments. He had purchased a flat at the cost of R1 crore in Haridwar for his maternal grandparents Prem Nath, 92, and Shaila Prem Nath, 87.
"Puri had been paying EMIs for couple of flats he had purchased with the scam money. However, after his arrest, the installments have lapsed," said a senior police officer.
