Cops say accused harmless; bragging cost him dearly

His attempt to impress the airhostess backfired on him, police said. During the three hours long intense grilling of the accused, they did not find anything suspicious about him. “We searched his baggage and did not find any weapons or needles, as he allegedly claimed on the flight,” said a senior police officer.

The accused is the son of a retired Air Commodore — Ashok Kumar Mohla. The family lives in Dwarka. On Monday, the Mohlas had posted security guards at the gate of the family house. The family was reluctant to speak to the media.

“Whatever is being said about my son is exaggerated. There is a lot of misinformation about him. I would not speak anything till the enquiry is on,” said Ashok Kumar Mohla, father of the accused.

Another relative, who did not wish to be identified, said, “His advances towards one of the airhostess could have been misunderstood.”

Mohla is married and the family lives at Naval and Air Force Officers Enclave in Dwarka.

Police sources said the accused was reportedly drunk when he boarded the flight. A passenger informed the police that the moment he boarded the flight, the accused broke into an argument with the crew.

“During interrogation, he told us that he did not know his bragging could land him in jail. He initiated a conversation with the airhostess for fun,” said a senior police officer.

He even told his fellow passengers that he was from the Indian Air Force and had a lot of connections.

“During our intense interrogation, we did not feel the need for a police custody. He was himself shocked that his mischief could lead to such an outcome,” said the officer.
