In the last 10 days, the area has witnessed seven burglaries.

One victim was K. Swaminathan (65), who was undergoing an open-heart surgery the day his flat at Hindustan Times Apartments was burgled. “We were at the hospital when our house was burgled. They took away gold worth lakhs,” he said.

The Delhi Police says the same gang is behind the series of thefts in the area. “We are seeing a pattern here. All the apartments where the thieves have struck are next to each other. In fact, IFS apartments, where six houses were broken in, is next to Hindustan Times Apartments,” said a senior police officer requesting anonymity.

The police said the method of breaking into the houses is also the same. In almost all the cases, the hinges of the doors were taken out making the locks useless. Also, all the thefts took place between 9:00 am and 2:30 pm—when most people are not at home.
