The Ghaziabad police have arrested a couple for abducting an eight-year-old from Ganesh Nagar area of Delhi on Tuesday.

On August 7, four persons had kidnapped Sarfaraz, a class 3 student, from near his residence and taken him to their hideout in Ganesh Nagar. Noor Mohammed, the child’s father and a resident of Maharajpur area near Delhi border, received a ransom call of Rs 5 lakh the same evening. He was told to deliver the amount at Link Road area in Sahibabad.

“The culprits, identified as Rajni Arora and Mohd Saeed, had planned to murder the child after getting the ransom,” said Raghubir Lal, senior superintendent of police (SSP).

Arora claimed she had worked as a reporter with a television channel and had a live-in relationship with Mohammed Saeed, an executive with a private sector bank.

“Saeed, a distant relative of the child, masterminded the kidnapping to earn a fast buck with the help of three accomplices, including the woman. Two of the accused are still absconding,” Lal added.
