During a hearing on the report submitted by the CBI last Wednesday, magistrate Singh asked Saini the reason for filing the report in such a hurry. “Why couldn’t you wait to file the report when the court opened?” she asked. “Where are the closure-report annexures?”

Saini replied it was a normal procedure for the CBI to file such reports in any of their cases. “It is not particular with Aarushi-Hemraj murder case,” he said.

Saini also told the court that the report was submitted as the “CBI wanted to clear all yearly back-log”. As Saini struggled for answers, the magistrate demanded the investigating officer be present for a hearing on January 7. The officer will have to submit the case documents, along with the case diary.
