Lawyers affiliated to Delhi Bar Association held a daylong strike at all Delhi district courts on Thursday.

Scores of litigants went back empty handed, as advocates abstained from appearing in court for routine matters.

The lawyers are protesting against the rule in Delhi that lower courts can hear and decide a civil suit to the value of Rs 20 lakh only and that the Delhi high court should hear other matters, which exceed the said limit.

Manjeet Singh a trader from south Delhi said, “My case is pending for years and these strikes just disrupt the proceedings. These strikes cause damage to the litigants.”

Moreover, lawyers also obstructed the 2G-spectrum trial proceedings in progress at the Patiala House court complex.

Rajiv Khosla, spokesperson of Co-ordination Committee of all Bar Association of Delhi said due to the complete strike, work in all the six district courts had suffered.

“Advocates in all six district courts are observing complete strike today. Not a single case is being attended by any lawyer in the district courts,” Khosla said.
