Sources said the proposal has been tweaked a little to accommodate the concerns of the party. While Delhi government has managed to have its way on division of MCD in five parts, sources said the number of councillors are likely to remain at the existing figure of 272.
The three-member AK Walia committee had endorsed the proposal of VK Malhotra and Desh Bandhu Gupta committees to increase the number of municipal wards from four per assembly segment to six, thus increasing the number of councillors from 272 to 408.
Sources, however, said the resistance from the party and the sitting municipal councillors has forced the government to drop the idea of increasing municipal wards.
