As many as 20 minor girls were raped by men much older than them in the past two and a half months, the data show.

The latest and most shocking among the incidents were reported from west Delhi’s Subhash Nagar and Mangolpuri in outer Delhi.

What is more disturbing in this trend is the fact that in almost all the reported cases, the victims were being threatened with dire consequences by the accused.

On Saturday, the Rajouri Garden police station arrested a 60-year-old man for allegedly raping two minor girls in his neighbourhood.

The police said the accused, Surender, was sexually exploiting the girls, both aged 10 years, for the past two months.

Another brutal case of sexual assault of a minor took place on February 28 in Mangolpuri, where a Class 2 student was brutalised by an unidentified man on the premises of Nigam Pratibha Vidyalaya, a municipality-run school.

Even as the incident triggered violence and rioting in Mangolpuri, the police have still not been able to arrest the culprit.
