Among the few things that are slowly catching the fancy of those watching Commonwealth Games events and enjoying cultural programmes are green-coloured paper bags with loads of information on Delhi.

The department of tourism's kits — with booklets and brochures on Delhi's heritage, tourist spots and cultural and culinary expertise — have become popular with tourists and locals alike.

The kit has 10 booklets — big and small — which have summarised almost everything that Delhi has to offer to tourists. Two maps — one on Delhi Metro and another on Delhi's roads — provides complete information on how to reach not just the Games venues but also various tourist spots spread across the Capital.

Named 'Delhi Celebrates — Commonwealth Games 2010', the guide is a thick booklet that contains information on each and every music and dance programme, theatre, food festival and exhibition during the two-month-long cultural extravaganza, held to commemorate the Games.

It also contains a comprehensive directory on Bed and Breakfast accommodation in the city.

"With this array of booklets, we have tried to empower tourists to explore Delhi on their own," said Rina Ray,
managing director, Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC).

According to Ray, the department has come up with 40,000 such tourist kits and distributed them at various foreign embassies and high commissions.

They have also been given out to athletes, delegates and technical officers of participating countries and to
tourists, through volunteer centres and information kiosks across the city.
