A 22-year-old Chinese student from a Delhi University college was allegedly molested by a plant seller at her residence in Delhi on Monday.

Initially in the dark about the identity of the suspect, police nabbed 42-year-old Mahavir after a two-day long hunt. For three consecutive days before the crime, the accused had been visiting the complainant trying to sell flower pots and plants to her.
She told the police, that on Monday, when she asked him to leave, Mahavir allegedly touched her inappropriately. The woman raised an alarm after which the accused allegedly fled. The woman then informed her roommate who encouraged her to report the matter to the police.
A case was registered at GK-1 police station and several teams formed to identify the accused. “No one in the locality seemed to know of the accused as he would only deliver flowers at the doorstep,” said a senior police officer.
Door-to-door visits by the police teams finally yielded results on Thursday when one of his customers was able to reveal his identity. Mahavir was finally nabbed from South Delhi’s Badarpur area, not far from where he lives. Police said he had stopped visiting the area since the day of the crime.
