Delhi govt to give cash to medallists

The Delhi government on Monday announced cash awards of 15 lakh, 10 lakh and five lakh for gold, silver and bronze medal winners from the city in the Commonwealth Games.

The Delhi government on Monday announced cash awards of 15 lakh, 10 lakh and five lakh for gold, silver and bronze medal winners from the city in the Commonwealth Games.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said coach of the medal-winning athletes will also be awarded Rs five lakh in cash.

Pre-Games coaching helped: Deepika
Jamshedpur: Commonwealth Games gold-medallist Deepika Kumari on Monday said that long periods of coaching before the just-concluded mega event helped her in achieving her feat.
Deepika thanked the Archery Association of India for holding a long coaching camp in Kolkata ahead of the CWG.

‘Dipika's pullout denied us a medal’
New Delhi: India's top women's squash player Joshna Chinappa has attributed the country's failure to win a medal in the sport at the Commonwealth Games to the pullout of her doubles partner Dipika Pallikal. Dipika pulled out due to illness.
