The man, identified as Shibesh Adhikari, turned out to be a martial arts teacher from Fatehpur Sikri in UP, said DCP (Metro) Jitender Mani, adding that Adikari is now suspected to be a mentally deranged person.

“During questioning, Adhikari claimed that on September 28 he received information about a man who had plans to blow up Delhi Metro on Thursday evening,” said a senior police officer.

“Adhikari further claimed to have called up the police control room twice to report about the input but no one took his calls, after which he took upon himself the task of assassinating the threat and procured a country made gun from an undisclosed source,” said the senior officer.

When the cops grilled him hard on how he had managed to sneak inside the metro station premises at Chandni Chowk (in Yellow Line of Delhi Metro) with the gun, he told them that he had no weapon with him when he was frisked at the security gate.

“He had instructed his sister to wait near the glass pane - which is around three feet high - between a customer care cabin and one of the Automated Fare Collection (AFC) gates meant only for exit and had asked her to hand over a bag once he was inside after being frisked by security personnel,” said the officer.

Adhikari was headed towards Noida (in Blue Line of Delhi Metro), for which he had to change train at the Rajiv Chowk metro station. Before taking the second metro, around 9.45 PM, Adhikari told police that he wanted to check his gun so he went to a relatively secluded spot within the metro station and accidentally shot himself.
