Delhi may soon get a Shera theme park
Delhiites may soon get a Shera Ghar, an entertainment theme park on the lines of Appu Ghar, set up after the Asiad in 1982. The immense popularity of Shera — the Commonwealth Games mascot — has led the Organising Committee (OC) to contemplate the theme park.

"Shera has been the lead campaigner of the Games and has been extremely popular with the Delhiites and athletes too. We are planning to create a Shera Ghar but it is yet to be finalized. It will be a reminder of the Games," said Gaurav Thakur, director communication, Organising Committee of the Games.
From visiting all the Games venues, to schools, and stadiums Shera has been doing his bit to bring Games closer to the people.
"There was a huge demand for Shera in the past few days when the Games were held. In the past 10 days alone we got request from a number of schools asking Shera to visit them due to his hectic schedule he was able visit 50 of them," added Thakur. Shera performed at the Closing Ceremony of the Games on Thursday too.
The popularity of Shera can be gauged by the fact that not only Delhiites, but even tge tourists and athletes who have come to participate in the Games are buying t-shirts, vuvzelas, sippers and other memorabilia.
But Delhiites may not know that though Shera is the darling of the crowds, Satish Bidla's (who dons the Shera costume) own family has never seen him dressed like one.
"My parents have only seen him on television since the costume is kept in the Games office," said Satyawan Dahiya, Bidla's brother.
A resident of Pitampura, Bidla hails from Chandigarh and had come to Delhi by chance.
"I was looking for a job. Luckily I got one at the OC. But destiny had something else in store for me and one day I finally donned the costume of Shera," he added.
Bidla's family is now hoping that he will be allowed to keep the Shera costume as a memento.
