According to senior officials of Haryana’s irrigation department, due to delayed monsoon and less snow melting in the mountains, this year Haryana has only one third of water availability compared to last year.

“This is a difficult situation and we need DJB’s support to restrict their water usage by at least 10%,” said a senior official.

According to sources, DJB has been drawing more water from Wazirabad than what is sanctioned.

“We are hard pressed for water, both to meet the drinking water requirement and for irrigation purpose. Our priority is drinking water and even that has been reduced significantly. We have been able to provide water only for seven days out of 32 days,” added the Haryana official.
