Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday said her government is committed to make Delhi a model child-caring city.

Speaking at the child rights initiative, Bachpan Sanwarti Dilli, organised by Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR), she said merely formulating child-related policies will not suffice, if they are not implemented properly.
Dikshit said NGOs have a vital role in implementing the schemes.
Though schemes such as NCPL, ICDS, ICPS and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan are currently on, lack of effective convergence of these schemes is needed.
Women and Child Development Minister Kiran Walia, Labour Minister Mangat Ram Singhal, Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely extended their support to the initiative and resolved to make Delhi a model child-caring city.
Amod K. Kanth, chairperson, DCPCR said, “During our discussions with NGOs, we found that government schemes have not been fully successful in various child-related schemes. We need to focus more intensely on child labour, SSA, child abuse and mapping, identification and rehabilitation of children.”
