But Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum have extended the Know Your Customer (KYC) scheme till November 15 to allow the consumers more time to give up additional connections.

People with more than one connection need to get in touch with their gas agency to fill out the KYC form, failing which no more cylinders will be delivered.

Most people, however, seem to be in the dark about the announcement. Chetan Sharma, a resident of Greater Kailash 2, said: “We have not been informed. Naturally, most people are clueless. There is no clarity because the agencies seem to want more information about existing customers. There are so many elderly people who live in the vicinity and they don’t know what to do.”

Joint families or those who share space with tenants are also worried about move.“We are getting snatches of information from here and there. There is a separate list on the transparency portal of the gas agency and we don’t have a clue as to what to do about it. People have joint families who have separate connections and some houses have tenants too. There has to be some clarification on the matter,” said Ramesh Sharma, a resident of East of Kailash.

However, the petroleum companies have clarified that there will be only one connection per household. If a single household has more than one connection, then the consumer needs to inform the agency or distributor. Once the distributor has verified the same, the additional connection will be permitted.
