Nishipal Kumar, a resident of Karawal Nagar in east Delhi, was admitted to St. Stephen’s Hospital on November 21 and was diagnosed of dengue.

“Nishipal died on November 30. His death due to dengue was confirmed today (Wednesday). With this the official toll in Delhi stands at three,” said Debashish Bhattacharya, state nodal officer for dengue cases.

With 12 new dengue cases reported on Wednesday, the tally of those affected by the disease has reached 1,106.

According to state reports, two people have died of dengue in Delhi earlier — a 15-year-old boy and a nine-year-old boy.

With the onset of winter, the health department is hoping the number of dengue cases will drop since the breeding of the carrier mosquito cannot occur below 15 degrees Celsius.

Last year the national capital reported two dengue deaths and a total of 1,312 cases.
