Rocky Rai was a student of BSc (Electronics) at Zakir Husain College. He was brought to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital on Wednesday morning with one of his wrists slashed.
“We were informed by the hospital that Rai had injuries on his wrist. He reportedly took sleeping pills too before cutting his wrist. He was not fit to make a statement when we visited him,” said a senior Delhi Police officer.
“At around 10.30pm, Rai jumped from the third floor of the hospital after his relatives left,” the officer said.
Though no suicide note was found, police said Rai was recently diagnosed with brain tumour. He was also depressed about failing in his exams.
Rai’s teachers said he had stopped coming to class but was frequently seen in college.
Police suspect Rai cut his wrist in college and are taking the statements of his friends who brought him to hospital as well as his teachers.
Rai lived with his relatives in Rajokri in Vasant Kunj. Police have informed his parents in Bihar. A post-mortem will be conducted after they arrive.
