The college principal, meanwhile, denied that the staff assaulted the three persons who had gone there to file an RTI application.

“It was the three persons who had come to seek information under the RTI act who misbehaved with the staff. They broke the computers and threw the files lying on the table,” said Shamsul Islam, principal, Satyawati College.

Police said they have received complaints from both the college staff as well as the RTI activists and were investigating the complaints.

“We are yet to register a complaint as we are examining the claims of both parties,” said a senior police officer. “One of the three persons who came to file an application is Anil Mittal who earlier ran a canteen in the college. We had cancelled his contract after irregularities were found and a police complaint was also lodged,” said Islam.
