Sources said Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has moved a file to the union home ministry, recommending Spolia’s name as next the chief secretary. The lieutenant governor has approved the proposal, a source said.

A 1979-batch IAS officer, Spolia is finance secretary in the government of Delhi. He will succeed Praveen Kumar Tripathi who will take over as chairman of the Public Grievance Commission after his retirement on December 31.

According to sources, as per convention, Dikshit had sent names of three IAS officers — Spolia, Shakti Sinha and Naini Jayaseelan — for the post of chief secretary, with a note recommending Spolia’s name.

While 1979-batch IAS officer Sinha is power secretary with the government of Delhi, Jayaseelan, a 1980-batch officer, is posted as member secretary with the NCR Planning Board.
