According to the DMK MPs, the AIADMK party, after it came to power has been targeting the DMK in the garb of a crackdown on land grabbing. Three ministers of the then DMK government have been arrested already.

The DMK now claims that the state government has been targetting party chief M Karunanidhi. They have accused him of encroaching land behind his Gopalpuram residence in Chennai and have said necessary legal action will be taken against him.

Local administation minister KP Munuswamy has said that a 780sq ft structure housing rooms for security guards was constructed on a piece of land alloted to Karunanidhi in 1967 by way of a Corporation resolution for Rs 3,250.
