DTU talks with parents remain inconclusive

On Saturday, the Delhi Technological University (DTU) administration made yet another attempt to resolve the ongoing agitation on campus. This time, parents of agitating students were invited for talks with the Vice Chancellor (VC) and the university’s Board of Managment.

On Saturday, the Delhi Technological University (DTU) administration made yet another attempt to resolve the ongoing agitation on campus. This time, parents of agitating students were invited for talks with the Vice Chancellor (VC) and the university’s Board of Managment.

But the meeting, like previous attempts, could not produce any positive results.

Parents, instead, used the opportunity to join in the students’ demand for removal of VC PB Sharma and restoration of DTU as an affiliated college of Delhi university.

The two demands have been earlier shot down by the state government. DTU became a state university in July last year, after a bill was passed in the Legislative assembly.

“Delhi College of Engineernig was converted into a state university without consultation with the stakeholders, especially students. The brand created over the years has been diluted overnight,” said the parent of a student.

“Why were peaceful protestors beaten up by police at India Gate? We have now decided to protest at India Gate on Sunday,” said PK Gupta, another parent. The meeting, which lasted over three hours, ended on an inconclusive note.
